Patent Agent

JOB SUMMARY

Are you a Patent Agent looking for an opportunity with room for growth and advancement? Would you like to leverage your patent law knowledge and skills in more diverse projects and technologies? Would you like to emphasize the quality of your work hours, rather than merely the quantity?

Consider a Patent Agent position at Erise IP, addressing the technical aspects of intellectual property cases. Our Agents’ responsibilities may include:

  • Litigation analyst involved with all aspects of litigation, from contentions, to experts, to depositions, and even trial
  • Drafting invalidity and non-infringement analyses of patents
  • Searching for “prior art” proving the history of technology
  • Collaborating with a team to prepare Inter Partes Review (IPR) Petitions
  • Creating new patent applications
  • Interfacing with technology experts
  • Testing and documenting product functionality
  • Reviewing technical documentation (potentially including source code)
  • Explaining technical issues to attorneys or clients verbally and in writing
  • Producing charts comparing and contrasting known technologies
  • Analyzing patentability of new technologies
  • Responding to US Patent Office rejections

Does this sound like you?

We want great written and verbal communicators who can explain detailed concepts to a range of audiences, from attorneys and juries (who may have limited to no technical knowledge), to patent examiners and inventors (who have more authoritative knowledge). Maybe you were on the debate team in school? Or maybe you enjoy creative and persuasive writing? They also enjoy reading and technical writing, including patent applications and legal documents.

As an analyst, you’ll use these skills to address the technical aspects of intellectual property cases. As opposed to most engineering jobs, there’s a quantifiable outcome for your tasks—and it doesn’t take years to see tangible results of your work. Your analysis will help Erise secure patents or win in litigation on behalf of our clients. You don’t need any previous legal experience or knowledge of intellectual property, we’ll train you on the job.
