Erise IP Attorney Selected for Law360 MVP Award for Intellectual Property

//

Law360 announced that Erise IP Shareholder Jason Mudd has been selected as one of nine attorneys in the nation to receive its 2014 Law360 MVP Award for Intellectual Property.

“Competition for the MVP distinction was fiercer than ever this year, with editors reviewing more than 800 MVP submissions to arrive at the winners,” Law360 reported. “Law360 will profile those elite attorneys whose successes in high-stakes litigation, record-breaking deals and complex global matters earned them a spot on this year’s list of MVP award winners.”

Mudd was nominated for the Law360 MVP Award recognition based on a number of recent successful outcomes.  He led a legal team and client that was the first to file, the first to argue and the first to obtain a favorable ruling in the new inter partes review process. He represented Garmin – the global leader in GPS – in the first ever inter partes review (IPR) before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board, and in November 2013, played a key role in securing a favorable ruling for his client.

In the case, Garmin International Inc. et al. v. Cuozzo Speed Technologies LLC, Garmin fought a patent held by Cuozzo. After Jason represented and argued on behalf of Garmin at the United States Patent and Trademark Office under the America Invents Act, the USPTO issued a final decision, construing Cuozzo’s patent in a way that could not cover technology like that employed by Garmin and holding all claims under review unpatentable.

In addition to the Law360 MVP Award, Mudd was also recently named to The National Law Journal’s list of 50 Intellectual Property Trailblazers & Pioneers for 2014. The IP Trailblazers & Pioneers award similarly sought to recognize attorneys “that have innovated and/or are innovating in the field and changed the way copyright, patent, trademark or licensing law is practiced or how IP is protected and managed.”
