Erise IP Shareholders Michelle Marriott and Megan Redmond were recently honored by KC Business magazine as recipients of its 2014 Rising Stars award.

Marriott and Redmond were selected by an independent panel of area business and civic leaders that sought to recognize up-and-comers in the creative, entrepreneurial, nonprofit and corporate communities who will shape Kansas City in the years to come.

As recipients of the award, Marriott and Redmond were featured in the January/February 2014 edition of KC Business magazine.

In announcing Marriott’s recognition, the magazine said, “Michelle Marriott is making a name for herself in an area of law that might be one of the most swiftly changing in the world.” The publication honored Redmond by saying, “Megan Redmond prefers the pragmatic approach and it gets results.”

The magazine highlighted Marriott’s work defending a video game publisher in a patent-infringement lawsuit in which Microsoft Corp. is also a defendant. In addition, it quoted Marriott as saying IP law is “one area where lawyering really matters.’”

While honoring Redmond, KC Business wrote that she “has a big-name client list that includes Cerner Corp., Garmin, Sony and Ford Motor Co.”

The publication highlighted the path Redmond traveled to become an attorney. “The variety on which Redmond thrives has been apparent for quite some time. Earning her undergraduate degree in genetics, Redmond turned off the medical school road and onto the law school route when she concluded legal work seemed more interesting than medicine.”

Also, the publication featured Erise IP’s success by calling the firm a “pioneer” in Intellectual Property law.

Marriott and Redmond were formally recognized as Rising Stars during a February KC Business event.
