Erise Welcomes Alex Matthews to Kansas City Team

Erise IP is pleased to announce it has welcomed Alex Matthews as an associate attorney in the Kansas City office, where he focuses on intellectual property litigation with an emphasis on complex patent and trade secret cases. He uses his background in engineering to translate complex topics into simple terms for clients, judges and juries.

During law school, Matthews served as a law clerk for several small law firms, including two IP-focused law firms. In those positions, he was able to learn on the job by attending depositions, pretrial conferences, mediations and arbitrations; drafting provisional patent applications and responses to office actions from the USPTO; and conducting prior art searches to determine patentability.

Matthews earned his legal degree and a certificate in intellectual property law from the Chicago-Kent College of Law, where he graduated as valedictorian. There, he served as a member of the Chicago-Kent Law Review and the Giles Sutherland Rich Memorial Moot Court Team. He received his undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering from Purdue University. Prior to attending law school, Matthews served as a production engineer for Mercedes-Benz U.S. International.
